Stalingrad Khronika is a two-volume graphic novel that tells the misadventures of a handful of men from the Red Army, the political Commissariat and the Soviet propaganda bureau who have been commissioned by the top dog himself (Stalin) to film a documentary about the Russian soldiers defending the city of Stalingrad from the Germans, for patriotic propaganda purposes. It's 1942, the place is a complete ruin, and none of the involved sides want to surrender an inch. The Soviets have fully grasped the usefulness of war propaganda to encourage their troops and keep morale up through releasing films and footage praising the courage and sacrifice of their men, and they've sent some of their best film-makers for this purpose. by Franck Bourgeron.
