Once upon a time in France

Once upon a time in France (Il etait une fois en France) is a series of comic of Fabien Nury (scenario) and Sylvain Valley (drawing), published by Editions Glénat in 2007.

It traces a fictionalized version of the life of Joseph Joanovici, a Romanian Jewish scrap metal dealer, became one of the richest men in France and was, during the Second World War, both close to the Gestapo in Paris and main provider of funds of the Resistance.

According to the warning at the beginning of each album, the story freely mixes historical facts, assumptions and deliberate inventions.

What historical figure would become almost mythical over the stories of the oral tradition, and the novel is still today for the Chinese people, a symbol of inflexible justice can judge and condemn indiscriminately from offenders common people, like those in the highest echelons of the state. His aversion to corruption, his legendary wrath against those who oppress the poor, make it an extremely popular hero.
