But love does not prevent and between Elle, the human, and Karel, the Cherish Bot, it's love at first sight. Nevertheless (2020)

This is Jordi Lafebre's first outing as a writer, you might know him as artist (with Zidrou doing the writing) on Glorious Summers, Vice Squad and Lydie. I reckon he's done a good job on this one, seems to have learned a lot working with Zidrou. What we have here is a cute little romance story, with the twist that it's told in reverse and begins with the pair ending up together and ends with the meet-cute.

In Pieces (Marion Fayolle) (2013)

A man comes home to his lover, his hands tainted by the dress of another woman. A few pages later, a couple fight for the custody of their daughter until she's cut in two. In Pieces is a beautiful book of visual poetry, in which all common metaphors are explained through images only.

The Tenderness of Stones (Marion Fayolle) (2019)

“We buried one of dad’s lungs,” announces the narrator of The Tenderness of Stones. The lung is so large it takes three men to carry it—and that is just the beginning. The family looks on as, under the dispassionate orders of anonymous white-clad strangers, their father is disassembled, piece by piece: His nose is removed from his face and tied, temporarily, to his neck; his other lung is pulled out and he is forced to lug it around in a cart; his mouth is pried off and stored away, leaving him mute. Beneath it all is one devastating truth: Soon, he will be gone entirely.

An inspiration going counter to preconceived notions about women and science, presenting a diverse group from around the world.

Lovecraft - The Myth of Cthulhu (2018)

by Esteban Maroto  (Author). "The Nameless City" is considered the first story of Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, detailing the discovery of an ancient city in the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula built by an unnamed race of beings of reptilian appearance. In "The Festival" a man arrives at the sea town of Kingsport, Massachusetts during Christmas but finds a place eerily empty and centuries out of date. "The Call of Cthulhu" is perhaps Lovecraft's most famous story, describing a man who after finding the notes of his grand-uncle is lead on a journey around the world in search of this mysterious and disturbing phenomenon.

Jamilti and Other Stories (2008)

by Rutu Modan  (Author). Published by Drawn & Quarterly in 2007, Exit Wounds-a tale at once mystery and romance-introduced North American readers to the colorful and tightly woven narrative by Rutu Modan and was included in Time and Entertainment Weekly's "best of" lists. Jamilti and Other Stories collects the cartoonist's short works, which lead the reader through unexpected turns of plot and unusual character portraits. Some are darkly fantastical and unsettling, such as the unraveling of a serial-killer murder mystery, or her accounts of an infatuated plastic surgeon and his sanitarium, and a mother back from the dead with dubious healing powers. Others are more attuned to surprising discoveries that shape personal identity, as in the story of a tragic past that lies within a family's theme hotel, or that of a struggling musician who hopes an upcoming gig will be his big break. In "Jamilti," Modan addresses political violence with a suicide bombing that shakes up a day in the lives of a young couple.

Mulo 01 - Brittany Drizzle (2018)

Script by POG - Art by Cédrick Le Bihan. Where did he come from? All Mulo knows is that he grew up in an orphanage on the French mainland. Then he receives an enigmatic letter directing him to an island off the coast of Brittany and promising him a glimpse into his past. A ferry delivers Mulo to the island where, in a seemingly abandoned cannery, he discovers a clue to his past—and learns that for some, he’s considered unfinished business. Drug busts, failed executions, and lousy weather—this is hardly an island holiday for a young mule on a quest. It doesn’t get any better when the truth you seek is on an old VHS tape that should have been destroyed a long time ago.

Violeta - Corazón Maldito (2018)

Script by Virginia Tonfoni - Art by Alessio Spataro. Violeta Parra was a musician, a poetess, an all-round artist, and the soul of the popular tradition of Chile. The year 2017 marked the 100th anniversary of her birth. Violeta’s life was painful and intense, devoted to art and love: for decades, she crossed America and Europe making people all around the world fall in love with the authentic folklore of her homeland. Virginia Tonfoni (writer) and Alessio Spataro (artist) tell her incredible story for the first time here in graphic novel format.

Empress Charlotte 01 - The Princess and the Archduke (2018)

In the Moment

“In the Moment” is a modern Romeo and Juliet in two different time dimensions. In this unusual love story, Dutch author Hanco Kolk and Flemish author Kim Duchateau have found a particular way of working together, in which each of them draws one time dimension. Rafael Falstaff falls hopelessly in love with Sylvia, a chronowoman. He can see her, but he doesn’t see her move, nor can he touch her, because they would both die if he did. But he’s happy with just seeing her, until he realizes her life is in danger. He then decides to take action, with all that it entails… Script by Hanco Kolk - Art by Kim Duchateau, Hanco Kolk.

Valentine

This is one of the best coming-of-age comics around. Valentine is a shy teenager making her way through the ups and downs of high school. Vanyda charts the different facets of adolescence with profound psychological accuracy. Everything is here: those all-important friendships, the interminable classes, the complicated love affairs, and the relationship with the parents. Teenagers will recognize themselves, while “adults” will be reminded all too keenly of those chaotic formative years! Script by Vanyda - Art by Vanyda.

Haytham - A Childhood in Syria (2016)

Based on the true story of a Syrian refugee in France, Haytham: A Childhood in Syria chronicles the life of a Syrian family as they escape an oppressive regime in their home country.

A Love for the Ages (2015)

Jean and Germaine are the most affable couple the little village of Colle sur Loup has ever seen. A duke married to a commoner, they have no children, no jobs, and are disastrous cooks! They like to indulge in life’s small pleasures; their books, their garden, and their after-lunch naps. They live for each other, and for their love. Their simple happiness intrigues, fascinates, infuriates and is the envy of all those around them.

Incognito 01 - Perfect Victims (2017)

This is the story of an invisible man. He’s a man that no one ever notices. He is transparent, whatever he does. This is rather a difficult cross to bear! One night, the man who so wants to be seen loses it. He’s had enough. He wants to feel things too! His outburst costs him an ankle injury, which in turn leads him to Berenice, the lovely young physiotherapist. She soon sets him straight: we are all victims in one way or another! Gregory Mardon develops a narrative based on the infernal spiral of human relationships, in which love is manipulation, kindness is selfishness and cruelty is an art.
