Phoolan Devi, Rebel Queen (NMB 2020)

by Claire Fauvel  (Author). She rebelled against the ancient tribal rules of India, her country, resulting in her becoming a Robin Hood type bandit. Essentially sold at the age of 11 to become a wife for a much older man, she ran away when he raped her. From that point on, there were few choices for her but to join a roaming gang of bandits, her ambition and thirst for revenge leading her to become their rebel chief. Ultimately, society caught up with her and she even became a strong voice for change, women, and social justice as a representative in the Indian parliament. A story of courage and unbending determination in front of centuries of established inequities in the classic Indian caste system.

History of Brittany in comics

Brittany, France’s northwesternmost region, is a hilly peninsula extending out toward the Atlantic Ocean. This comic is for the curious Britons of their history, but too put off by the two-volume book of Joel Cornette on the subject - History of Brittany and Breton. Created by René Le Honzec and Reynald Secher in 1991. There are 10 series have been released. 

The first volume of a series of 10, covers the often unrecognized period from prehistory until about 830 AD. It traces the original culture of the megaliths, the expansion of agriculture, the discovery of the metal, the history of the Bronze princes, expansion of the Celts, the Roman occupation, the barbarian invasions, the arrival of the Britons, the confrontation with the Franks. With this first album begins intelligent series, well documented, attractive and enjoyable. This comics really shows archaeological findings. It is very true to what we know of that time. I love the details. They even talk about the alignment of Carnac, Cairn (graves), the clans lifestyle. This book is instructive and accessible to a child of ten years.

The first album released in 1980  by Edition Philippe Auzou.
