The Daughters of Salem. How We Sent Our Children to Their Deaths
Colonial Massachusets, early 1690's. When a young girl in a Puritan town rejects a farmer boy's gift and instead slips out into the forest to dance with a young man from the Abenaki tribe,it sets off a chain of events resulting in one of the worst cases of mass hysteria in U.S. history, as neighbor turns against neighbor and friends accuse friends of the most terrible things. A fictional re-imagining of the Salem Witch Trials, in which gender politics, religion, xenophobia, innocent games of fortunetelling, and one man's sinful indiscretion are all factors that lead to the deadly witch hunt. When society pushes the ideals of equality to their breaking point, the result can easily become plain absurd. Even if it leads to the Medical Police imposing fines on anyone not watching the weather forecast… Three Kafkaesque stories that paint a frightening picture of an over-regulated world. Script by Jean Van Hamme - Art by Griffo.

To Drink and to Eat 01 (2019)
The comic itself is structured around the four different seasons, predictably starting with Spring and ending with Winter. As the seasons change, the ingredients and cuisine shift to match the temperature and it allows Long to cover a wide range of topics in an efficient matter. There is a distinct personality to the book, with Long’s art style excelling at capture the different moods of the kitchen and his handwriting imparting great character onto the narration and dialog. While I can’t speak to the accuracy of all of his tips and tricks, I can say with certainty that Long is funny and that I’m at least willing to try some of his techniques going forward.

But recently, Jorge has been spending less and less time at home. Elena isn’t sure what to make of his absence, and one day, she decides to leave. “Seven Places Without You” is the story of a young couple’s first experience of a relationship on the rocks; a story that allows time to elapse and silences to lengthen, focusing more on how events develop than on the events themselves. East-West (2018)
Script by Pierre Christin - Art by Philippe Aymond. Prolific comic book author Pierre Christin, who penned the game-changing classic sci-fi series “Valerian and Laureline,” switches to autobiography here to bring us the thoughtful, enlightening tale of two vastly different lands, the American West during the civil rights movement and the counter-culture phenomenon, and the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War, as seen through the eyes of an inquisitive French artist and journalist with a love for travel, intellectual query, gypsies, and jazz. Christin and his faithful road companion and “Valerian” co-creator Jean-Claude Mézières drive across landscapes ranging from Utah to Bulgaria in a series of cars each more dilapidated than the next, encountering people and adventures of all kinds in a story that is part travel journal, part geo-political documentary, and part artistic coming-of-age.

The world they uncover is one of no‐holds‐barred plotting to obtain victory at whatever the cost. And in the midst of the backstabbings and despair, one young Russian pilot falls in love with a feisty Spanish freedomfighter. In the hope it will outlast the bitter conflict engulfing them all.
