Tikitis (repost)

A group of retired Lucha Libre masked heroes hope for well-deserved peace and quiet on a small Polynesian island. Unbeknownst to them, their greatest adventures have yet to come! Art: Fabien M. Writer: Jerry Frissen.

Philoloco, Doctor Sumo, Polynome Z and Cerebrex are four retired Luchadores known as "The Tikitis." They thought life would be easy living on a "savage island." Boy, were they wrong! Amidst dealing with growing old, the foursome accidentally find themselves in the most wild of habitats, where world-threatening evildoers regularly create turmoil. It’s hard to call retired life on a tropical island "paradise" when you have to deal with Voodoo zombies, brain-swapping mad scientists, a cyclops and, worst of all, a visit from Philoloco’s overbearing mother!

The Forest

The Forest is a graphic novella told via twenty-five singular illustrations, without words, of which only Swiss artist Thomas Ott is capable. A young boy sneaks away from a family funeral and sinks into the forest depths, where he confronts man's greatest fear and must choose his path. Drawing with a technique called scratchboard, where a white surface is covered with a black layer and scratched away, Ott creates images out of negative space to harrowing effect.

Their key weapon: a sex-obsessed secret agent by the name of Anibal 5. Barbarella (repost)

Barbarella is a fictional heroine in a French science fiction comic book created by Jean-Claude Forest. Jean-Claude Forest created the character of Barbarella for serialization in the French V Magazine in spring 1962, and in 1964 Eric Losfeld published these strips as a stand-alone book, titled Barbarella.

The book caused a scandal and became known as the first "adult" (pornographic) comic-book, though its eroticism was slight and the American erotic comic-books known as "Tijuana bibles" had long predated it. For her creator, the character embodied the modern, emancipated woman in the era of sexual liberation, and as a result, this literary work has come to be associated with the mid-twentieth-century sexual revolution.

Noir Burlesque

This is a freshly scanlated volume that came out last month, it's a hard-boiled type gangster comic which will be in 2 volumes by Enrico Marini. You might know him from The Scorpion and The Eagles of Rome (t6 when?), as well as that Batman: The Dark Prince Charming book a few years ago. This time around he's trying for a more rough, sketchy style rather than the more detailed stuff he usually does. And I have to say, I do like it. The story itself is... eh, fine I guess. It has pretty much every cliche you can think of for the time, gangster movies, etc. beyond some going 'nyah, see!'

JERONATON - Champakou

Jeronaton's famous Champakou story about a Mayan astrologer who is visited by a beautiful extra terrestrial woman because she wants some of his virile male energy. Problem is he already has a secret lover who gets super jealous... Painted in photorealistic style. When I first saw it, I was weirded out how young Doll of Jade looked exactly like the Gypsy girl I dated one summer.

moebius - The Major - expanded edition+extras (2018)

The Major is at another mystical spiritual quest again, this time hunting for a key that will enable him to dream any dream he wants to. I'm not sure if this should have even been published, it is essentially a sketchbook drawings by moebius started in 1997. Moebius worked on it on and off untill 2009. It started with him just goofing around, the actual story begins at page 100. It was published in 2018, long after moebius' death.

Scattered Pages (Europe Comics 2022)

All Max wants to do with his life is make comics, and all his parents do is discourage him. His life takes a turn for the hopeful when a mysterious recluse, a Parisian comics veteran, buys a ruined chateau in the woods near Max’s house. His appearance is echoed by the arrival of a mysterious peddler with a printing press in the medieval village of Max’s comic, in which a monk is busily spinning a tale of Max’s daughter Suzie, all grown up and an illustrator in her own right. Tales nest in tales in Alexandre Clérisse’s dizzyingly intricate musing on creation.

Balls Up - A Contraceptive Journey (Europe Comics 2022)

Bobika is a man who has been practicing birth control since 2016. This is the sometimes moving, and often enlightening, story of his journey as he explores the methods of contraception available to him. Full of nutty anecdotes and accounts of his meetings and discussions with sociologists, doctors, and feminists, “Balls Up” is a reminder that, in addition to a personal choice, (male) contraception is above all a social issue. Script by Bobika - Art by Bobika

Evolution, Darwin, God, and the Horse-People (Europe Comics 2022)

Script by Jean-Baptiste De Panafieu - Art by Alexandre Franc. “Evolution” is a documentary comic book about the theory of evolution. But it is also a sometimes zany work of fiction in which actors put on a play about Darwinian evolution and its political extensions. During the writing and rehearsing of the play, they will be confronted by an evangelical sect that wants to promote creationism and thus stop the play from being performed at all costs. They’ll also cross paths with a rich transhumanist industrialist who wants to influence the text… After their previous collaboration on “Extinctions,” Alexandre Franc and Jean-Baptiste de Panafieu enlighten and entertain once again!
