Second Thoughts

Jess is a writer living in London. Andrew is a photographer on his way to New York. They do not fall in love - not exactly - but their brief encounter in Stansted Airport will impact both of their lives more than they can imagine. In Second Thoughts, the clean, emotional ink-work of Swedish newcomer Niklas Asker guides two characters through modern city life and love, as they struggle separately, yet somehow together. Lost in Translation meets Stranger Than Fiction! Past and present, reality and fiction overlap in this sweet, haunting, and ultimately inspiring graphic novel of modern city life and love.

Streak of Chalk (1992)

"Streak of Chalk" is the most famous work by Miguelanxo Prado. It was nominated for the two most important awards in USA: the Eisners (best illustrator) and the Harveys (best foreign work).

We Can Still be Friends (Blank Slate 2008)

Berlin-based cartoonist Markus Witzel, who goes by the pen name of Mawil, has established a reputation in Europe for his cataloging of the awkwardness of relationships, especially with the opposite sex, but always with some terrific humour throughout, earning him an Icom Prize in 1998 and an international reputation among the comics community. We are delighted to be able to offer this English translation of a brilliant European comics creator.

Never Again T1 - Light City (2003)

To brighten the suffering of the condemned. This was the duty Angelely Lynch had assigned himself after witnessing the execution of his parents. This truth which is his, he will push it to the point of absurdity. Until he feels the ground shirking under his feet, moment from which he will let himself be won by total estrangement. Anchored in his new phobias, he wanders aimlessly when faced with what has become his worst nightmare. A click occurs. Meanwhile, on an island with idyllic appearances is hidden a penitentiary for women that does not seem to have legal existence. Which report ? None, until fate decides otherwise.

Lord of Burger T1 - The Spice Garden (English) (2010)

When you run a 3-star restaurant, you do not have the right to make mistakes. And the great Alessandro Caprese is not an easy leader. It's not his killer who will say the opposite. Following the murder of their father, Ambre and Arthur inherit a debt of several million euros. Therefore, no choice but to take over the family restaurant. But the Amber thing is sculpture and Arthur's, the fast food. Too bad, it will roll up the sleeves, because the fortune depends on the famous red guide and its critics. And the inspector must come from one moment to the next.

Hand to Hand (Glenat 1993)

Those who appreciate the drawings of Ana Mirallès will be a little surprised by those of this album, which do not correspond to those of the Djinn series for example. A little more angular, with vignettes also larger, less details, that's what we can say. For all that, the pencil of Ana is always quite pleasant but the style is a little different. As for history, when things are not suggested in Djinn, here it is not the case. No possible misunderstanding or under-mention.

Marlene (2006)

A lurking terror has infected the town of Malborg. Madness and death haunt the luminous Scandinavian nights, and the victims all seem to have one thing in common: their lust for the voluptous Marlene. As he investigates, ace detective Michael Joergendsen must navigate a dangerous course between his official duties and his own growing fixation with the young woman. Is he on the trail of a supernatural killer, or is it the other way around? And the beautiful Marlene - is she the innocent victim of an obsessive stalker, or is she something more sinister?

Embroideries (2005)

From the best–selling author of Persepolis comes this gloriously entertaining and enlightening look into the sex lives of Iranian women. Embroideries gathers together Marjane’s tough–talking grandmother, stoic mother, glamorous and eccentric aunt and their friends and neighbors for an afternoon of tea drinking and talking. Naturally, the subject turns to love, sex and the vagaries of men.

Epileptic (2005)

The book tells the story of the artist's early childhood and adolescence, focusing on his relationship with his brother and sister. His brother develops severe and intractable epilepsy, causing the family to seek a variety of solutions from alternative medicine, most dramatically by moving to a commune based on macrobiotic principles. As the epileptic brother loses control of his own life, the artist develops solitary obsessions with cartoons, mythology and war. The book's graphic style becomes increasingly elaborate as the children's fantasy life takes over, with their dreams and fears (including epilepsy itself) appearing as living creatures. In brief interludes, the children appear as adults when the artist begins the process of writing the story. David B.

Epoxy (Le Lombard 2003)

All great careers have a beginning! That of Jean Van Hamme was also the magnificent twilight of Paul Cuvelier, mythical co-founder of the newspaper "Tintin". The great artist was suffering from being unable to draw "nudes" in the weeklies of 7 to 77 years. So Van Hamme wrote to him this story which sees the young Epoxy amazon tossed by the gods between pain and pleasure.

Dusk - Poor Tom (2000)

Three agents turn up in the small town of Salem to investigate the deaths of four people who died on the same night under strange circumstances. This is a rather unusual event for such a small town whose residents seem a bit too keen on forgetting this tragic night. It soon becomes clear that the victims are not missed, and it is in an even more charged atmosphere that the investigators slowly uncover the terrible secret that uites the population of Salem. A chilling and disturbing graphic novel thriller.

Beautiful Death - One-shot (2011)

Unclassifiable, dreamlike and simply beautiful post-apocalyptic tale about a handful of people trying to survive on the deserted streets of a huge metropolis... Note: Patrick Swayze is shown as the characters are watching Dirty Dancing in one panel.

Bastien Vives - To my Eyes

Dans Mes Yeux (In My Eyes), 2009, Casterman: On the surface, the plot of Dans Mes Yeux isn't revolutionary. A guy meets a girl, they go home together, she leaves the next morning. Where it is different, is that the narrative is told entirely from the view of the male protagonist. Vives is constantly experimenting and as well as using techniques where the images get blurred as the protagonist's concentration wavers, the art here is composed from pencil crayons and looks pretty stunning for it.

Auclair - The Story of Pointed-Nose and the Three-Legged-Wolf

The stories tell about mountain-men and early pioneers in the "west", of the times before civilization ended all. When GRIZZLY was published in Kuifje/Tintin in early 1971 the big audience was not ready for this story. An album-publication according to the 44, and 46 pages principle could be realized in 1976, when Auclair had made The Story Of "Pointed-Nose" And The "Three-Legged-Wolf" (LE LÉGENDE DE NEZ POINTU ET DE TROIS-PATTES LE LOUP/Gebroken-Neus en Drie-poot-de-wolf).

Sam Pezzo, P.I. T01 (Catalan 1987)

With a dark mustache, high forehead, a smoke jammed in his yap, Sam works the mean streets of a suitably bleak Bologna, a "shitpile of a city." He does collections and other assorted small jobs for various suitably seedy clients. Sam seems to swear quite a bit, but this may be the result of a bad attempt at rendering American tough guy talk into an Italian comic strip.

Sexy Fun Strips (1998)

An adult comedy comic created by Gurcan Gursel.

Requiem Claudia Special

Sub-series of Requiem chevalier vampire. Also known as: Claudia - der Vampirritter (German). Claudia: de vampierridder (Dutch).

Medicine Man

A big fan of the American Old West, Serpieri co-created L'Histoire du Far-West (The Story of the West), a Western series about the history of the Old West, with writer Raffaele Ambrosio, which was published in the magazines Lanciostory and Skorpio. Some of the titles were L'Indiana Bianca (The White Indian) and L'Uomo di Medicina (Medicine Man).

Little Ego (Eurotica 1994)

Little Ego is an adult-oriented comic strip written and drawn by Vittorio Giardino (first published in 1984). It is an erotic parody of the classic Little Nemo comic. As in Little Nemo, each story is about the main character, Ego, having a dream. Whereas Little Nemo talked to his mother after waking up, Little Ego thinks what she will tell her psychoanalyst. Every story in the Little Ego comic book involves erotic imagery, with Ego appearing half-naked or fully naked in at least one point. She has sexual intercourse with men, with other women, and even with plants and animals.

Heart of Empire

Heart of Empire, or the Legacy of Luther Arkwright is a limited series by Bryan Talbot, published in nine monthly parts in 1999 by American company Dark Horse Comics. The story is largely set on the same parallel on which the key events of Luther Arkwright occurred. Twenty-three years have passed (putting the date of the events at 2007), and England has emerged from its artificially-prolonged Civil War to become the predominant world power under the autocratic rule of its psychic Queen Anne. The decadent court exhibits a mixture of Elizabethan, Restoration and Victorian styles. Ordinary people randomly "disappear" to an unknown fate in St. George's Chapel, Windsor at Windsor Castle.
Anne's only heir is Princess Victoria, her daughter by the long-vanished Luther Arkwright, born during the climactic battle twenty-three years earlier. Victoria is an engineering genius, but suffers constantly from nausea and headaches. Victoria's twin brother Henry was assassinated at the age of ten, but when Victoria is told she resembles the revolutionary leader Gabriel Shelley, she becomes fascinated by the possibility that he is her brother, and starts a quest to learn about the circumstances of Henry's death. Meanwhile both a Papal Envoy and a group of fascists within the government plan to assassinate Anne and Victoria in order to seize the Empire for the Roman Catholic Church and themselves, respectively. Furthermore, the advanced society of parallel "zero-zero" has detected an imminent cataclysm centred on Victoria's world, and tries in vain to contact Luther.

Adolf

"Adolf has shot Kennedy, who is sinking Titanic, responsible for the end of the grunge music, and discovered that Monica Lewinsky is actually Dr. Mengele, who has kidnapped Hermione to breed a new super breed ... ". This is how Walter Moers himself collects parts of the "plot" of this second strip collection about Adolf Hitler. He's right, it really does not matter, as one follows the other of the ten disasters. With his time-travel helmet, the funny dictator can be pushed out of the epicenter of the horror again and again after the desired or unwanted three times knocking on the helmet - only to bring about the next disaster. Even Godfather does not succeed in stopping him. When he is finally on his way to Russia with his Hermione, the reader knows. A satire comic by Walter Moers.
Again, a "satirical act" as a reviewer praised the first part? Then something terribly comical would have to be found in the strip, something that also illuminates an illuminating light on the subject of satire. I do not see that. I see the pleasure of absurd confusion of known events. What emerges is a kind of blood sausage. Either you like blood sausage, or you do not like it. If it is pursued by Prof. Pickel and holds his brain between two microwave accelerators (substitute everyday drugs), one may find his bright pleasure. Above all, probably to be allowed to laugh at a tabuthema - where is it still there? In a nutshell, a purposeful Hitlercomic leads to the market of the odds being given another product: "Oh do shit ..!"

Moebius - I am not Batman (1995)

In 1994 Moebius submitted a short Batman comic to DC Comics, who quickly rejected the work and refused to pay Moebius for any of it. So he re-worked the comic, presumably in a more humorous style, and published it as “I Am Not Batman” with Penthouse Comix.

Benek Dampc and The Neighbour's Corpse

A Polish comic.
