Gentlemind

New York, 1940. Navit, a young, penniless singer, inherits ownership of an old-fashioned girlie magazine: “Gentlemind.” Combative, intelligent, and audacious, she sets herself up as the publication’s new director and takes on the immense challenge of turning it into a modern magazine. Haunted by the memory of her lover who left for the front lines of Europe, she must confront the realities of an American society that is in its golden years, but remains highly patriarchal. A deeply touching story spanning three decades, relating the American dream from a woman’s perspective!

1940s New York. Navit and Arch, a couple of young artists, lead a frugal life together in Brooklyn. While Arch desperately seeks work as an illustrator, Navit goes to work at a cabaret owned by billionaire H. W. Powell, who wastes little time in staking his claim to her. Distraught, Arch flees New York to join the front lines of the war in Europe… Shortly thereafter, upon Powell’s death, Navit is left at the head of “Gentlemind,” an old-fashioned men’s magazine. A feminist ahead of her time, Navit seizes her chance to reshape “Gentlemind” and bring it into the national spotlight, with the help of the eloquent and seductive lawyer Waldo Trigo. However, despite the passing years, Navit is still haunted by the memory of Arch. And she must face a rapidly changing society that’s threatening to spell an end to her newfound magazine empire…

But he soon learns that they are not the only ones on the clan’s scent—they are being tailed by another group of mercenaries. A breathless chase ensues, forcing Lark to reconnect with his dark past (Humanoids: 104 pages).

Tangier in the Rain (Europe Comics 2022)

In 1912, Matisse is feeling a little fed up. In Paris, Picasso is hogging the limelight, so Matisse decides it’s time for some fresh air, a little space, and a different kind of light. That’s it, he’ll cross the Mediterranean and start painting a new kind of nature. He’s going to Tangier. Problem is, when he finally gets there, it starts raining. In Villa de France, his palatial hotel looking down over Tangier, he has to make do with painting what he can: his bedroom. And so it begins: Room 35 is consigned to canvas, in a series that goes on to become legendary in art history. Script by Fabien Grolleau - Art by Abdel de Bruxelles.

No matter who’s causing trouble, Margo knows exactly what to do—the neighborhood kids say monsters are afraid of her. It's a good thing, because Echo City's trolls, ogres, and ghosts all have one thing in common: they don't like Charles very much (Papercutz: 137 pages).

In 1864, a year after the death of Eugène Delacroix, Alexandre Dumas recounted the memories that marked his friendship with the great painter. From one anecdote to the next, Dumas’ text reveals the personality of both painter and writer. Blacksad

Blacksad is a comic album series created by Spanish authors Juan Díaz Canales (writer) and Juanjo Guarnido (artist), and published by French publisher Dargaud. Though both authors are Spanish, their main target audience for Blacksad is the French market and thus they publish all Blacksad volumes in French first; the Spanish edition usually follows about one month later. The first volume Quelque part entre les ombres (literally Somewhere between the Shadows, but simply called Blacksad in the US) was published in November 2000. The second volume, Arctic-Nation, was published in 2003 and the third, Âme Rouge (Red Soul), was published in 2005. An English translation of the third volume was delayed due to the bankruptcy of its North American publisher, iBooks.
In 2010, Dark Horse Comics published all three translated volumes as one volume. The publication of this 184-page collection also coincided with the European release of the series' fourth installment, L'Enfer, Le silence (literally Hell, Silence), in September 2010. In 2014, a fifth installment of the series, Amarillo, was released in various translations.
